Callanetics is a fantastic approach to exercise. It involves lots of stretching and concentrates on protecting the spine and back. It quickly firms up all areas of the body without any jerking motions or locking of the joints. Callanetics is a safe and proven method of improving your feeling of well being. I would recommend this program to anyone of any age.
Don’t expect to see the numbers drop on the scale right away. That’s not what this is about. It is about core strength and trimming up. Your muscles will be lean and strong and you will look slimmer.
The first time I exercised to the DVD, I was shocked to feel so relaxed during my workout. Don’t misunderstand me–the workout is NOT EASY, however, it was different than the keyed-up, overly aggressive, don’t-stop-until-you’re dying workout videos I’ve done before.
Callenetics works out muscles I didn’t even know I had, and because it is enjoyable to do, I’ve stuck with my new routine. You will absolutely trim inches from your entire body. Do yourself a favor and measure yourself all over before you start, record the measurements of waist, thighs, calves, etc.
Then, after two weeks of doing this program three times a week, measure yourself again. There will be a measurable difference even if you haven’t lost an ounce.

The increase in flexibility makes it easier to sleep, relax, do just about everything. The toning is visually evident within the first couple of weeks, if not sessions. I don’t think it is best to use this as a weight loss program, but combined with cardio such as brisk walking or a treadmill, and it will help tone you as you lose.
I love Callanetics for a few simple reasons:
- You don’t need specialized equipment or tools. Everything you need to do the workout is a little space and a sturdy chair.
- It’s only one hour. I don’t dread the workout, so it’s easier to get myself to do it consistently.
- It works quickly. After just a few times doing the workout I could see and feel a difference.
- I love the way it makes me look. I have an athletic build and a tendency to build muscle quickly. Callanetics gives me the long lean muscles I love.
Final Verdict: You Should Try it!
This is a great way to tone your body without adding bulk. I would definitely recommend adding a bit of cardio to your workout routine if you have a great deal of fat to lose. However, she gives you all the toning you need for those tough spots: tummy, saddlebags, love handles, etc. You’ll find some of the moves difficult at first, but keep at it. It’s worth it!
