The Complete Collection of Sweatin’ to the Oldies Review

by Natalie Belford

The Complete Collection of Sweatin’ to the Oldies teaches you how to lose weight by dancing to the classic music in the 80s. The music is inspiring and suitable for people at all ages. The video features Richard Simmons as the main trainer. What’s interesting is that the songs are not just pre-recorded stuff, there’s actually a live band that’s singing them! Kinda bizarre for a workout video.

The live band members are dressed in 80s dress to get you in the mood of exercising. Though I found the exercises to be rather simple, they can help to tone up the body fat in a short time. I didn’t know this but found out that Richard Simmons has experience in coaching aerobic exercise programs for more than 30 years (cool). The music collection includes 41 oldies songs from the 1980s and there are four discs which features a different collection of oldies song. Some of the songs available in the collection include Dancing in the Street, Peggy Sue, Wipe Out, The Lomotion, Big Girls Don’t Cry, Respect, Rescue Me, Louie Louie, Born to be Wild, Rockin’ Robin, Heat Wave and the Wanderer.

The aerobic workouts exhibited in the video are a great start to the exercise program. This edition includes a 2 hours of bonus material. The bonus material is a interview with Richard Simmons. In the interview, Richard Simmons revealed a number of success stories of his students. I didn’t find this to be that interesting so I kinda sped through the whole bonus content and focused on the workouts instead.

Each video begins with the warm up and a couple of stretches. The high intensity aerobic songs are next after the warm up and stretch exercises. If you feel that the exercises are easy, you can customize the workout by repeating the songs or selecting the songs to play during the workout. As you progress through the aerobic program, you will find that your body is burning calories and losing weight.

I would recommend this exercise video to people who love the 80s music. It can also be used by people who haven’t had a workout for a long time. The warm up exercises demonstrated in the video will take a long time to complete. Once you have performed the warm up, you can start to do the real exercises that will make you sweat.

To sum up, this is really a feel-good-make-you-happy kinda program. Especially if you grew up in the 80s, its not strange to be flooded with nostagia and memories while working out. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not but I enjoyed the Sweatin’ to the Oldies workout. It was fun!
