10 Minute Solution: Rapid Results Pilates
Overall Rating:

Retail Price: $14.98
Amazon Price: $9.99
I’ve had a few different pilates DVDs and the 10 Minute Solution: Rapid Results Pilates DVD is pretty damn good. It really helps that Lara Hudson, the instructor tells you when to breath in and out and you can hear her breathing. You can synchronize the 5 different workouts in the order you want. Some of these exercises are different from the ones on other pilates DVDs.

I was a bit hesitant about buying this Kim Kardashian’s Fit in Your Jeans by Friday DVD. In a way, I’m glad that I did since I am rather envious of Kim’s look and fashion sense. And this workout does work.

It’s easy, fast paced, and fun..not a whole lot of workout stuff is needed to do these workouts. I am really into “no equipment”. All you need is a stepper and some 5lb free weights.

This Turbo Jam Beachbody DVD set has 5 workouts. 1) Learn and Burn 25 min), 2) 20-minute workout, 3) Turbo Sculpt(40 min), 4) Cardio Party (45 min), and 5) Ab Jam (20 min). The DVD set of two has a learn and burn segment which covers learning the 11 moves which are designed for low-impact, high cardio and high ab reduction.

Then there is a workout segment of about 15 minutes on the first burn segment. The 20 minute full workout is on the same DVD and another segment of a full turbo sculpt workout using hand weights of about 40 minutes is also included.

Dance off the Inches: Hip Hop Party
Overall Rating:

Retail Price: $14.98
Amazon Price: $10.49
The first time I tried the Dance Off the Inches: Hip Hop Party workout, I didn’t like it. I thought the moves were much too complicated and I would never get them down right. That doesn’t mean it’s not doable, but it WILL take you a few workouts to get the choreography, arm movements and flicks.

In the meantime, you should listen to Jennifer (the instructor) and do what you feel rather than worrying about how you look.

P90x is not bodybuilding. Its overall fitness. You won’t get huge, you’ll get strong and have good muscle endurance which helps out in the real world.

Pure bodybuilding involves many fewer exercises, fewer reps, much heavier weight, and would be quite difficult to pull off with the P90x limited equipment requirements. Plus you need a special diet to really get the gains.

Power Yoga - Total Body Workout
Overall Rating:

Retail Price: $14.98
Amazon Price: $9.49
I purchased the Power Yoga:Total Body Workout DVD three years ago and, although I own many yoga DVDs, I have used this workout for quite a few times. “Power Yoga” is, as advertised, an excellent, total body workout — albeit not one for beginners — with just the right amount of instruction and no irritating “pep talks” or celebrity prattling: in other words, real yoga.

Element: Pilates Weight Loss for Beginners
Overall Rating:

Retail Price: $14.98
Amazon Price: $10.49
The first chapter of Element’s Pilates Weight Loss for Beginners includes some standing work that allows the body to open in lateral flexion, rotation and extension. Additionally, you warm the body with some strength from Pilates-style planks/push-ups. The matwork is a beginner/intermediate level and provides wonderful abdominal exercise. With proper attention to form, your body should respond with this one quickly, not to mention it is such an enjoyable form of movement.

I have many yoga dvds but I needed to do more cardio. For me a good exercise DVD has to have a good instructor, manageable segments, and something fun. Regular aerobic dvds bored me to tears. Then I saw an infomercial for Hip Hop Abs and thought it’d be a good all around workout to get you moving, break a sweat, and have fun at the same time.
