I do enjoy Yoga although I’m certainly not an expert at it. What I like about Yoga is the fact that you don’t have to jump around and do a ton of squats and lunges. It’s very low-impact but at the same time, just the actions of holding a challenging pose will make you sweat buckets and burn that fat off.
This particular Rodney Yee Power Yoga DVD is an hour long and it starts out pretty slow so you get time to warm up, which is great. After like 10 minutes or so, he gradually picks up the speed and has you transitioning from poses like Downward Dog to Warrior 1, Warrior 2 and Triangle.
It’s not overly difficult to do but for some reason I found myself really building up some internal heat. I was sweating a lot, as if I was doing an aerobics workout but my heart-rate wasn’t up much. It’s a deceptive yoga workout dvd. It doesn’t require you to do difficult poses but it has a really good flow so you do transition from pose to pose in a really graceful way. It’s not jerky and I quite enjoyed it.
The stretching and cool-down portion was rather long as well. You can be stretching your back, hamstrings and legs for around 20 minutes and then there’s around 10 minutes of lying on the floor relaxing and gradually enjoying the flow of your breath. It’s really quite a pleasant experience because the whole workout isn’t stressed to meet some time-based quota.
Sometimes I get tired of aerobics based workout dvds where they transition into different exercises so quickly… I know its to keep the heart-rate up but after a while, there are days when you just want to get a decent workout but yet completely stretch your body and invigorate it fully.
After doing this Power Yoga dvd in the evening, I felt terrific later at night. It made my body really relaxed and I had a great sleep too. Given how this Yoga dvd involves a good deal of lengthening stretches, I would totally recommend it as a morning workout as well, especially since our bodies take time to wake up and get into the flow of things.
Give this a try if you’ve done Yoga before and want a new routine. I liked it!
